The Problem

What We Did
Steep hillside driveways fail repeatedly when contractors use standard suburban asphalt mix and ignore the drainage and stress dynamics of a grade. We specified a polymer-modified asphalt with higher stiffness and deformation resistance — the mix you need when vehicles are braking on a slope every single day. We rebuilt the cross-drainage at both edges so runoff moved across and off the surface rather than running along it and undermining the base. The bottom transition geometry was reshaped to reduce the abrupt grade change where braking stress concentrates.

The Outcome
First full year through NJ winters and summers — no corrugation, no edge cracking, no deformation. The homeowner said it was the first time the driveway felt solid and performed right from day one rather than showing early signs within the first season.
